It was in the fall of last year when we first became acquainted with Ross McPherson. Our buddies at the Wormhole sent us an advance copy of PHERS' Carbon Dating, which became an instant hit around the office. Just last month he was part of that mega-compilation from ShadowTrix, Shadows Vol. 3, and now he's bringing us some fresh heat just in time for his headlining play in Arcata next week.
“Firmware” is real nasty. Gritty and unrefined, it's a rough and tumble track that really grabs ya by the chin hairs. McPherson has a dark streak, mostly operating in the shadows, so to speak, crafting these moody urban anthems with grace and panache. It's a skill.
As I mentioned, he is headlining Whomp Wednesdays at The Jam in Arcata, California alongside Womp Rat and Sbass Jamz on February 28th. Then what's this? Why he's playing The Untz Festival in Mariposa, California taking place June 1-3 among such talent as Secret Recipe, Frequent, Brightside, and kLL sMTH. How convenient...
