And now for something completely different... Firepower Records is known for bringing the heaviest of the heavy, but they've got some global club sounds, too!
West coaster MineSweepa blasts out his Stank Breath EP on June 2 with two bulldozers including the title track and “Nail Biter,” but I chose something way far outside the normal realm of Firepower's bread and butter to showcase this guy's range, as well as that of Datsik's label.
“Stitches” has this uptempo swagger that feels like favela funk meets traplord. It's a tropical bounce with a helluva back beat and the surprises are plentiful. Then when Sweepa hits that breakdown, all bets are off as the rhythm pulls a left turn into straight fist-pumping madness.
