TOURIST
Tourist is the musical moniker of London born Will Phillips. Combining emotive, melodic sensibilities with innovative production values, Will incorporates his love for analogue tapes and field recordings with his passion for synthesizers and sampling to create a euphoric, melancholic sound that plays equally well on the dance floor as it does in more intimate environments.
Will has steadily made a name for himself over the last year with his first EP, “Placid Acid” released in 2012 and his new EP “Tonight” released earlier this year, both of which were met with widespread critical acclaim. In 2013 Will debuted his live show – with dates across Europe and a live Boiler Room performance, Will is playing to ever increasing crowds.following.

Always ahead of where things are going, Grenier (Tectonic, Frite Nite, Symbols) enters new, hybrid territory with ‘Voids,’ folding together soulful echos of techno, house, and bass. The culminating volume of his popular series, ‘Voids’ sums up the best of the past volumes alongside new material. Slow-moving synth patterns, massive kicks and off-kilter percussions build into something strong but subtle, unified by Grenier’s penchant for melodic, deep textures and punishing low end.
Grenier began the Voids project back in 2010 as an outlet for the soulful electronic music that he was producing at the time: “I self-released Voids One and Two because the music didn’t really belong anywhere; it was dance music, but it’s also really personal. It rode the line between home listening and club music, and the tracks didn’t fit the narrow bandwidth of any labels that were accessible to me at the time. So instead of shaping the music to fit a certain genre or style, I just released it directly,” Grenier explains. The earlier volumes of the ‘Voids’ series sold well despite being a ‘pay what you want’ model.
Influences of Grenier’s musical past can be seen among the twelve diverse tracks: his early days of dark, heady sound system music that Resident Advisor once described as “unfurling, diasporic tangents of what-used-to-be-dubstep;” Polyrhythms of post-jungle and drum-and-bass influences; and even at times, harkening back to minimal techno and early bass music. ‘Voids’ will be released on September 30th via Kinky Beggar.
