Motion NotionIt's so difficult to throw one festival, let alone keep it going for consecutive years. Trust us, we've seen so many festivals crash and burn because of poor promotion, weather, lack of proper permits (always that), or just plain burning out. But some festivals not only survive, they thrive. Case in point is Motion Notion, celebrating its sixteenth year as one of the preeminent electronic music festivals in all of Canada.

Returning to the gorgeous Beaverfoot Lodge in Golden, BC amongst the stunning Canadian Rockies from July 23-27, the festival's tenets revolve around freedom of expression and art. They ask that all attendees abide by three simple rules:

1) Respect other's space, time, and opinion.
2) Non-violent conflict resolution.
3) Care for nature.

But if you're going to stack the bill as high as they have, one more rule should be added: 4) Dance your ass off

It's the unspoken rule, but MoNo's lineup is so tasty, fans won't have any problems following that last amendment. For those who might be new to northern festivals, we've assembled a list of 10 artists from around the world appearing on the Motion Notion bill that you should see, and took liberties sprinkling in plenty of new and established Canadian acts with whom you should become very familiar.

10. Perkulat0r

We first started catching wind of this BC-based producer last year, and now the dude has gone and blown up! Expect this set to be nothing but the hottest shit.

9. Birds of Paradise
Bird of Prey and Gibson have been pushing their BPMs higher and higher, and Canadian fans better watch out for some midtempo and uptempo psybass that's going to knock them on their asses if they're not careful.
8. Au5
This is the biggest Jersey sensation since Frankie Valli. Austin Collins knows how to control the crowd with his powerful anthems and penchant for variety.
