Few labels are more important to the story of bass music in America than Los Angeles-based SMOG Records. As part of the label's dedication to bringing the best in bass to eardrums around the country, label co-founder John Dadzie, a.k.a. 12th Planet has collected a motley crew of subsonic survivalists to ravage the speaker systems of the countryside with outlandish displays of fist-pumping mayhem.

On January 21st, Dadzie and his crew of ProtoHype, Flinch, Son of Kick, and more will hit the famed Georgia Theatre in Athens, GA for a night of pure SMOG.

I got the the chance to interview 12th Planet a couple of years ago, for what remains one of my favorite epidodes of The Untz Podcast, to date. The man has an encyclopedia knowledge of drum & bass, and is credited with popularizing dubstep in the US back when it was a completely unknown genre. But Dadzie's never been one to get stuck in a rut, taking his own sound to new heights with traces of moombahton, trap, and electro.

Another favorite of ours is young ProtoHype, who had an absolute breakout year, touring consistently with Minnesota and then Datsik in 2013, building up a fan base with hit after monster hit. In fact, Max scored one of our Top 10 Dubstep Songs of 2013 with "Fly" featuring Alina Renae (whose video, coincidentally, features a very studious 12th Planet).

SMOG staple Flinch will be bringing along his bag of tricks to the GATH, as well as UK mainstay Son of Kick. Both producers have had monster remixes that have made them both highly sought after in the studio, as well as on stage.

The legendary Georgia Theatre is nestled in picturesque Athens, GA, about an hour outside Atlanta. Known for hosting seminal rock, folk, jam, and Americana acts, the GATH has become an epicenter for electronic music in the southeast.

Doors for this show open at 9pm. Advance tickets are available to those 18+ for the low, low price of $12. Head over to GeorgiaTheatre.com to snag yourself some tickets for the hottest show in January.

Why is it so hot? Because The Untz is presenting it! That's right.
