The Untz Challenge III: Turn Your Dreams into a Reality

Incredible prize pack grants electronic music producers the opportunity to perform at the top U.S. music festivals this summer

The Untz Challenge III was by far our biggest contest to date. Everyone on staff would like to thank everyone who participated. We were overwhelmed by how much good music is out there being produced by fans and amateurs, alike. All we want to do is get a little exposure for the scrappers out there hustling to get their music out, who do it for the love, and are dedicated to their craft. This is a tough competition, and to make it to where you have is such a testament to the changing music industry, and the open forum that is language of music.

In a close race that went down to the wire, SPEKTR came out on top in the fan vote. Combining the modern aesthetics of drumstep, moombahton, bass and more into their ultra-dancey sound, Clint and Tim really carved out a victory through a hard-nosed campaign and genuinely good composition. After an exhaustive debate process, the staff of TheUntz.com finally selected Dynohunter as its choice for the management pick. This act demonstrates a combination of pristine production, unique instrumentation and arrangement, and a dynamic stage show that is central to rocking festival crowds. We encourage all amateur producers to keep hacking away, keep sending us your tracks, because one of these days, we'll be adding your name to the long list of winners, and your career in music could just as well be sent into orbit by a chance just like this. Stick to it, and congratulations to the winners.

For all you amateur producers, making beats in your bedroom and playing house parties for your friends—this one’s for you. TheUntz.com is once again bringing back The Untz Challenge, but this time the stakes are higher than ever and are guaranteed to change your electronic music career forever.

Our prize package includes the opportunity to perform at the biggest and best summer music festivals taking place across the United States including Summer Camp Music Festival (May 25-27 – Chillicothe, IL), Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival (May 31-June 3 – Ozark, AR), Sonic Bloom (June 21-24 – Georgetown, CO), and Electric Forest Festival (June 28-July 1 – Rothbury, MI). These festivals have already unveiled monster lineups that feature heavyweights in the electronic music industry like Bassnectar, Pretty Lights, STS9, Thievery Corporation, Steve Aoki, Lotus, Big Gigantic, Girl Talk, Ghostland Observatory, Beats Antique, EOTO, Zeds Dead, and many, many more.

Beginning March 15th and continuing for the following two weeks, The Untz will accept submissions for the competition via SoundCloud. During the month of April, fans will vote on their favorite tracks via TheUntz.com.  Artists heavily solicit votes by actively posting links on their social networks (Facebook, Twitter, and message boards).

A total of 2 slots will be given away to the winners of this contest. The grand prize, which includes a performance slot at each of the 4 participating festivals, will be won through the fan voting process. The second place winner is chosen by the staff of TheUntz.com, and will have the opportunity to perform at Summer Camp, Wakarusa, and Sonic Bloom.

Now then, here are the rules and regulations of the competition:

  • ORIGINAL, UNRELEASED tracks must be submitted to The Untz Challenge SoundCloud DropBox (www.soundcloud.com/theuntzchallenge) beginning March 15th, and we will continue to accept submissions until March 30th at 11:59 pm PST. (DO NOT SUBMIT TRACKS BEFORE 3/15/12)
  • Please submit only ONE track per DJ/producer/group. If you submit more than one, only your first entry will be considered—and it will annoy us to no end, which is not a good thing.
  • DO NOT submit MIXES, REMIXES, or STOLEN WORK. (Yes, we understand DJs create mixes, but we want ORIGINAL, SINGLE tracks for this particular competition.)
  • The Untz staff will compile a list of the best submissions.
  • Voting by the public will take place from April 4-27 at www.theuntz.com/theuntzchallengeIII.

One of the main objectives of TheUntz.com is to give exposure to promising talent in the electronic music scene. The spirit of competition fostered by these annual challenges is all in good fun, because at the end of the day, fans from around the world are going to get a chance to hear amazing, cutting-edge productions from tomorrow’s biggest stars. It goes without saying, but cheating will NOT be tolerated when it comes time for voting. Last year, we saw it all, so this is just a friendly reminder that big brother is watching, and he knows his programming. Just because this is an electronic music competition, it doesn’t mean we want robots voting. Immediate disqualification is a harsh penalty, so make sure you stay within the boundaries. Now—all seriousness aside—let the games begin!

* The contest is restricted to residents of the United States and Canada. Winners will be responsible for providing their own transportation to and from the festivals. Additionally, they will be responsible for bringing whatever equipment necessary to perform at the various festivals, within the specifications outlined in the technical riders and contracts of each individual event. The winners may not be afforded full artist privileges at each event—certain events will grant the winners access to hospitality, accommodations, and restricted areas beyond that of regular ticketholders, but each individual festival will communicate restrictions/privileges with the winners.

Cheating WILL NOT be tolerated. TheUntz.com has algorithms in place to detect falsified or "bot" voting. Any competitor even suspected of cheating will be disqualified, so make sure nobody is mucking up your chances of winning with or without your permission.
