For a couple years now, high-flying Canadian duo The Funk Hunters have been collaborating with legendary hip-hop figure Chali 2na (founding member of Jurassic 5), bringing audiences to their feet around the world with a stunning blend of funk, soul, and carefully constructed rhymes. While the outfit has been jet-setting from festival to festival, the trio is still finishing up its ILLectric EP, which is aiming for an October 14 release on Westwood Recordings (helmed by The Funk Hunters' own Nick Middleton).
Today, fans get a taste of that new EP with the video for "Word To Spread." Set against the stunning backdrop of Galiano Island on British Columbia's picturesque Pacific Coast, The Funk Hunters introduce Chali 2na to their origin story. Middleton and partner Duncan Smith cut their teeth on turntables out on Galiano, and the beginnings of The Funk Hunters stretch back to those jagged cliffs where the mountains meet the sea. The pefect complement to 2na's peppery vocals are the thrilling choruses from Aussie beatboxer Tom Thum, who delivers the gilded finishing touches.
Fans who pre-order ILLectric will get "Word To Spread" instantly, hopefully carrying them over until fall when the EP is released, and when The Funk Hunters and Chali 2na hit the road together to support the record. That's music to our ears.
Pre-order ILLectric EP and get "Word To Spread" rocketed right to you!
