7. Robert Glasper - Black Radio (1 and 2)

Robert Glasper is great. The way he plays the keys is unreal and beautiful. These records have one of my all time favorite drummers Chris Dave on them. He has an incredibly unique and impressive approach to drumming and the sounds coming from him are so good they sometimes make me want to throw my drums in the trash. “Yet to Find” with Anthony Hamilton is one of my favorite songs of all time.

6. Christian McBride - Live at Tonic

This is a live set of some of the best musicians out there having an incredible time experimenting for a whole night. A bunch of bad ass musical guests show up. And they play all night. They get weird as hell and I love it. Some of the songs are half an hour long and feel like a roller coaster. I remember I showed a friend a track from that album and afterwards he said “I feel like I need a hot dog after that.” Terreon Gully’s drumming and the way his kit and cymbals sound were extremely inspiring to me. And with one of the funkiest bassists there is leading the session it really grooves.

5. Parliament - Mothership Connection

Well Parliament was a musical staple in my house growing up. "Give Up The Funk" is a song I remember listening to with my parents a whole bunch. So as far as influential albums go, this one shaped who I am musically and what I dig into a whole lot. A lot of good family memories go with these tunes. These guys have a lot of fun on this record and even just the intro has me cheesing ear to ear right now as I type.
