Here at The Untz, we pride ourselves on jumping on the bandwagon early. The name Preston Flynn will be on everyone's lips in 2015, and from where we stand in mid-January, the reason will be While We Wait.
The new Focal Point album is a future funk and electro-soul tour de force. A myriad of immersive soundscapes are decorated with these vintage breaks and classic samples. Opener "Work We Do" ignites our appetite with hard hitting bass and a lush symphony of warm, analog tones.
"Chance We Meet" has this intense groove, reminiscent of early GRiZ and Pretty Lights, but beyond the obvious comparisons, the precision production technique of Boulder, CO-based Preston Flynn is astounding. Tracks like "Everything In Stride" put us in a David Axelrod trance a la Songs of Inexperience.
"What Has Come Over Us" with Diamond Cuts on guitar has such a sultry, smooth edge, we're grinning from ear to ear from the jump. These are perfectly crafted hip-hop nuggets. Flynn isn't just sitting on Diamond, he's sitting on gold.
The best kept secrets never last that long. Euphoria Music Festival caught wind of Focal Point, and he'll be headed down to Austin, TX in April. Check out some of his other dates on the horizon while you listen to his free--that's right, 100% album.
