You know you can always count on Bassrush Records to hit you with the heaters. Earlier this month they premiered A New Existence by Mystic Grizzly and it is dripping with all that bass-y goodness. This young buck, Jordan Hoffman, is coming proper with this release.
The Florida boy has been dipping his toes in the musical waters for over a decade, experimenting with instruments like the guitar, harmonica, and ukulele, but electronic music has taken the drivers seat with his Mystic Grizzly project. Landing shows with legends like Freddy Todd and Thriftworks and being showcased on some of the most esteemed festival lineups, it is safe to say Mystic Grizzly is starting to make his lasting mark in the scene.
Throughout this three track EP Hoffman takes the term experimental bass to the next level. “Golden Age” and “A New Existence” and “Eradication,” all share those heavy bass, spacey, glitchy, alien vibes. These tracks are layered with some serious texture. It is impressive to hear this intricate of work from a young, fresh face and A New Existence has us wanting more. Catch Mystic Grizzly live this weekend doing two dates in Florida with Papadosio, and then at High Caliber outside Philly next month.
