While many transformational artists in the States, the United Kingdom, and Australia have been turning to India for inspiration, a couple of Indian artists have been advancing the electronic dance music culture in their homeland for nearly two decades.
Gaurav Raina and Tapan Raj, better known as Midival Punditz, have been longtime collaborators with Karsh Kale and the late Cheb i Sabbah, and were even invited to perform with Alicia Keys in New York City. The pair release their fourth studio album, Light, on internationally renowned world electronica label Six Degrees Records tomorrow (April 28).
Today's premiere, "Maya," is equal parts western and eastern. With its south Asian flavors, the song is clearly fit for any psychedelic bass DJ's repertoire, but the rocking guitars and driving house groove give the song a hypnotic vibe that make it appealing across the board. Fans of artists like Shpongle and The Nadis Warriors will dig the psych rock overtones in a thoroughly dance-laden collection of tracks.
