Keota - Uneven ScraggleLet me get one thing straight, goddammit. This EP title is not a reference to Tom Brennan's beard. It is a full, beautiful, bushy beard. It has bounce, and volume. In hair parlance, it's luxuriant. Just wanted to get that out of the way before proceeding any further.

Part of the east coast cabal of brave bass trailblazers alongside such acts at tsimba, Maxfield, DeeZ, and Smigonaut, Keota is creating such devastatingly brilliant tunes that reinvigorate an old salt like myself who has heard every damn thing under the scene. Dubstep, glitch-hop, left-field bass—this cohort, and Brennan in particular are really injecting some fun and excitement into the subsonic scene.

Enter Uneven Scraggle, out tomorrow (October 3). We premiere the title track from this tightly wound EP before it springs on fans tomorrow. Getting some serious SLUG vibes on this bouncy neuro bopper that provides the requisite amount of overdriven bass and staticky interference we demand. Look, this kid is one of the leaders of a new generation of talent that has given me faith in the next crop of bass superstars.

Keota is on an extended sabbatical across the pond, but my guess is that will only drive up the demand for his tunes upon his return, and you will see that gorgeous beard parading across this fine land in due time. Until then, snag the EP tomorrow.
