HulaweenAh, sweet October. For some of us, a cooler breeze is accompanied by leaves beginning to turn vibrant shades of crimson, yellow, and orange. Pumpkin Ales can be found at just about any bar, and you start to see more and more fuzzy scarves and warm jackets. Halloween marks the glorious end of the month; many spend it going out on the town, others choose to get drunk at a house party with their boys and scantily clad ladies, others still will make it to a show and dance the night away.

This year, we think you should throw all of those things together, at a scenic riverside campground in Florida, for three days, with all your friends...oh and STS9, Big Gigantic, Emancipator, Conspirator, Future Rock, Eliot Lipp, Prophet Massive (featuring Jason Hann of EOTO), Up Until Now, and many more.

And best of all, NO OVERLAPPING SETS! Check out the recently revealed schedule.

An unprecedented musical celebration over All Hallow’s Eve weekend, and thrown by jamgrass pioneers and live performance aficionados String Cheese Incident, this is going to be one for the ages. There will be bluegrass and rock groups as well as two sets each night from Cheese (in addition to a special set on Halloween night), so don’t expect an all-out EDM fest. Rather, this is a perfect mix of fun, talented acts spanning several genres, with Tribe and Big G throwing down late night.

Tickets
3-day General Admission passes include music and camping and are available for $189.00. These passes will be $220.00 at the gate. Friday through Saturday camping passes will be available at the gate only for $155.00. Single day tickets will also be available at the gate for $80.00 for each day, and do not include camping.

Experience
The festival is located at an outdoor music venue that hosts events year (including forthcoming Aura Music & Arts Festival with Lotus, Papadosio, Zoogma, and more in February). In addition to being a music venue, the Spirit of Suwannee is also a campground along the Suwannee River that is filled with with towering trees and winding trails.

Within the venue there will be the Spirit Lake Promenade - a visual arts experience that has never been seen at Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park. Fans can expect an eclectic array of lights, art installations and performance art.  Working with some of the Southeast’s most talented sculptors, fire/metal workers, painters, performance artists and lighting designers, Hulaween will transform the waterfront and adjacent forest into a vivid dream-like space that fully engages the senses.  Art installation crew Kickin’ It is bringing a massive jelly dome installment (you may have seen it at Rootwire) and will be hosting a Nautical Aquatical theme night (sailors, fishermen, mermaids, starfishes, squids, whatever your fancy).

There will be a disc golf tournament at the beautifully wooded course at the park. You can also adventure on a canoe trip, spend an afternoon fishing, attend a yoga class, quietly rage the silent disco, or join your friends for a game of mini golf.

Sustainability/Environmental Awareness
Hulaween has a greening program in place to help keep glass, plastic, aluminum, cardboard, and paper separated and recycled properly. There will be a compost program for all food and waste and a Green Team handing out bags and keeping things clean. Conscious Alliance will also be in the house, so bring in twenty cans and receive the commemorative festival poster.

Additional Tips

  • There will be a sports bar in the music hall so you can catch your favorite team’s game.
  • Even though this event is in Florida, the nighttime temps can drop down into the 40’s so bring warm clothes.

String Cheese has done their coined Hulaween before, the last time being in 2010. But this year they are taking it to the next level, creating a full blown halloween extravaganza and roping in events extraordinaires Silver Wrapper, the crazy awesome peeps at Suwannee Music Park in conjunction with Purple Hat Productions. The beauty of this event for those who love Halloween - three evenings of opportunity  to get decked out in your most ridiculous costumes and boogie late into the wee hours.
