Favorite ThisEsseks' Bad Cartoons LP is anything but 'Overrated' [Dec 8 - Gravitas]

Sam Eckstein has been coming across our radar pretty consistenly over the past couple years. Several allies in the music biz have seen the potential in young Esseks, who is a mere week away (December 8) from releasing his latest album, Bad Cartoons, via the tastemaking Texas-based Gravitas Recordings label.

Eckstein manages to blend electro-swing and hip-hop in a magical way with "Overrated," which we're thrilled to debut today on TheUntz.com. Loungey and subdued, there's a definitely Mr. Scruff vibe coming across here, though Esseks tends to draw comparisons towards Dirtwire and Beats Antique, for the most part. Equally silly and melancholy, the scratchy swing and knee-breakin' beat gives us plenty to look forward to in the rest of the Bad Cartoons release.

Esseks sets off on a southeastern tour with one of his champions, Space Jesus, mid-month, hitting Louisville, Atlanta, and Asheville. Early next year, he hits Playstation Theater in Times Square in the heart of the Big Apple with one of his heroes, Tipper, but first, it's Brooklyn Bowl this Saturday following a set from Twiddle.
