For the weekend of September 21 through 23, the word on the lips of thousands of people across the globe will be “Peace.” That’s because since 1997, Earthdance International has coordinated the annual Global Festival for Peace. During this two day camping festival of music, art, and social activism, participants and attendees bask in the worldwide glow of peace through enriching activities such as yoga, drum circles, a worldwide prayer for peace and, of course, music. Tickets are $15 single day and $30 for the weekend, specifically for the Earthdance Ithaca event. There is also a family rate, $25 for single day and $45 for the full weekend. A hundred weekend camping passes have just been made available to complete the experience.  Advance purchase recommended. ( We have also added a promo offer for THE UNTZ readers.  Promo code 'UNTZ' gets your crew 20% off presale tickets / camping.

There are fifteen Earthdance sites in the U.S. this year alone, but one of the most widely attended and highly anticipated is the one set in Ithaca, New York. Set in gorgeous upstate New York, Ithaca’s extension of the Earthdance International experience will be highlighted by not only live bands but with a Dance Stage, with headliners such as FreQ Nasty, Lion Dub, Desert Dwellers (Amani DJ Set), and Bird of Prey. Music runs until well after 2 A.M., giving dance lovers plenty of time to shake the peace out, as it were.  The ED Stage will be going late both nights, with local supporting talent like Wolf Council, Solar Lion, and Astro Hawk. Saturday will also be highlighted by the Global Peace Prayer, which will be chanted simultaneously across the world (4 p.m California, 7 p.m. Eastern US). For those interested in following along at home, the prayer reads:

We are one global family
All colors, All races
One world united.
We dance for peace and the healing of our planet Earth
Peace for all nations.
Peace for our communities.
And peace within ourselves.
As we join all dance floors across the world,
let us connect heart to heart.
Through our diversity we recognize Unity.
Through our compassion we recognize Peace.
Our love is the power to transform our world
Let us send it out

Ithaca’s event will also be coinciding with several other events around the downtown area. Both the Latin Roots Festival and the Ithaca Food Justice Summit have both recently announced they will be collaborating with Earthdance, in order to promote, “integration of peace and justice across the sustainability movement.” Three-way shuttle service will be available to ensure festivalgoers are able to make it to all events Saturday afternoon and evening.
