Hailing from the Australian east coast underground scene, Dyzlexic and Jesswah bring us their debut glitch-hop release Da Womp on trendy Hopskotch Records. This 6 track-EP is reminiscent of Hilltop Hoods with its playful flow and positive lyricism all about keeping the vibe alive, but coupled with funky and wonky electronic beats.

You definitely feel an influence of late 90’s/early 2000 hardcore rave music in their rhythm – and this becomes especially evident in the track “Rock the Funky Beats,” which samples OG hardcore freestyler DJ the Viper. The final track, “Marcia Awakens”, shows the most potential for these two. The beat has a more laid-back and polished feel than the previous tracks, and their attitude really reflects better with that type of atmosphere.

Although I feel that some of the tracks were mismatched in that the lyrical flow didn’t match the electronic tempo or mood, at times, this EP still provides a solid base for these rising hip-hop artists. We imagine the duo will continue to find its voice in subsequent releases, which we eagerly await.
