Denver is becoming not just a bass music capital in general, but a glitch-hop Mecca specifically, serving as home to Mr. Bill, kLL sMTH, Duffrey, and Craftal.
Ian McKenna fits in amongst these icons in the field thanks to crisp and clean production, and an innovative streak that puts him on equal footing with these giants. His latest EP, Smack Dab, features three new tunes that are vastly different, but all contain inventive composition, and a heavy dose of low frequency oomph that comes at the listener like a battering ram.
Enter “By The Throat,” a thick package of gritty bass and funky grooves. There are some twists and turns you won't expect, but it's not like it's going to leave you scratching your head on the dance floor. There's no reason why Craftal can't ascend to the upper echelons of glitch on the back of this intensely evocative tune and its two companions. Smack Dab is out in full on November 5.
