Favorite ThisBassnectar: Hexes [ft. Chino Moreno]

Published: September 20, 2012

Lorin Ashton aka Bassnectar is a man who truly needs no introduction. The experimental producer has reigned over the current world of dubstep, well before it hit the mainstream. And now he’s reaping the rewards of monarchy with major collabs.

On Ashton’s most recent bullet unleashed from his gun slinging fingertips, he busts out a daunting anthem. “Hexes” opens up with a groundbreaking, sonic boom of a bass tone, which instantly sets the scene for every inch of apocalyptic madness up ahead. Next up is a trenchant layer of cataclysmic vocals from Chino Moreno (lead singer of the legendary rock act Deftones), whose vocals flawlessly sit atop Ashton’s dark wobbles to create a hauntingly poetic, thrill ride for anyone tuned in. You can literally feel the twisted passion and emotion shining through each earth rattling synth, which acts like a shower of bricks headed directly at the listener’s dome.

Bassnectar and Chino Moreno come together to create one of 2012’s most undeniable bangers, and we can’t stop listening. Resident Evil: Retribution lucked out with this gem. Here’s hoping the movie is as good as the soundtrack.
