Mindspring Music has been a steady source of new and progressive psychedelic and ambient music for quite some time now. Label head Twin Shape has been effective at discovering and dialing in up-and-coming talent, and paving the way for burgeoning stars in this evolving corner of the industry. Which leads us to today's premiere.

Alterra Project is a trio of London-based producers: Charlie Bartlett, Dane Andruszko, and Rory Gordziejko, who have all carved out a niche with their solo endeavors, but are now aiming to take this three-piece out on the road. Their new EP, Turing Test, is an homage to the late great British codebreaker and early computer scientist (though it was mostly theory and mathematics during his heyday in the 40's and 50's).

While the other two tracks on the EP flit along with more serene, delicate melodies and rhythmic configurations, the title track, “Turing Test,” bubbles and froths over with intense psybreaks and a myriad of glitchy elements. It's a churning tune fraught with intense mood shifts and rapidly escalating progressions. Throw in a few choice samples, and you've got a thumper of a tune that stretches towards the 8-minute mark. Highly recommended if you're a fan of Birds of Paradise. Grab this one tomorrow (January 27).
