Favorite This20 in 30: Skytree Emerges from the Forest

Published: September 15, 2011

SkytreeMinnesota's Evan Snyder has been tinkering around with tapes, beats, and mixes since his teens. As Skytree, Snyder has shared the bill with brash bass conductors like Bird of Prey, Tipper, Freddy Todd, and NiT GriT, but his is a sound that's not just heavy or raunchy, it's deeply reflective and exploratory. Years of experience have given Skytree's sound an earthy edge that is at once grounded at the same time as it is lush, complex, and just plain far out.

The psychedelic space cadet inside all of us gets a breath of air from Skytree's "See-Through Time." For those unfortunate souls who have not been blasted through a tesseract on a hallucinatory bender hearing color and tasting sound, slap on a pair of headphones and turn this puppy up. Doused in the natural effects of a pristine rain forest, Shpongle and the Nadis Warriors would be beaming if they could call this their own. Shrouded in mystery and anticipation, this encompassing trip through time and space tickles the senses as it satiates the belly's hunger for grinding beats and withering melodies. This is the soundtrack to a forest hike on a distant moon far, far away. Enjoy...
