ZEDS DEAD:

http://www.whoszed.com/ // Toronto, Canada

DC and Hooks are ZEDS DEAD. They first hooked up in 2004 and formed Mass Productions. Influenced by the digging in the crates sampling school of hip hop, Mass Productions released one independent album in the summer of 2007 entitled Fresh Beetz. It was their first and only release. In the summer of 2009, the two launched their second collaboration - Zeds Dead - turning up the bpm and aiming the bass-lines at the dance-floor. Soon after Zeds Dead (alongside the Killabits) founded a weekly party in Toronto called BassMentality. Guests have included Nero, Skrillex, Netsky, Mary Anne Hobbs, 12th Planet, Borgore, Plastician, and many more. Zeds Dead has earned an excellent reputation amongst a new generation of producers as artists without borders - genres hold no bearing over their music as they transcend style and form with ease. By pulling from a vast array of source material (Radiohead, The Rolling Stones, The Moody Blues, Sublime), and molding it into their unique brand of dance-floor classics, They have established themselves as a dominant force in EDM circles and have received recognition and praise from tastemakers worldwide. With a stockpile of originals and remixes set to be released in 2011, Hooks and DC show no signs of slowing down. Catch them live and you’ll know: Zeds Dead is here to stay!

BONOBO:

Over the last couple of years, Bonobo has become one of the premier artists on the Ninja Tune imprint and certainly one of the most listened to, with over 16 million plays recorded on LastFM. His combination of superb live shows and studio wizardry means that he is now perfectly placed to push on into a yet bigger league. With “Black Sands,” Bonobo has made the record to achieve it.

Simon Green was born and grew up in rural Hampshire, escaping to Brighton aged eighteen. There he fell into the jazz/hip hop/funk/soul scene centred around Rob Luis and nights like phonic:hoop. An accomplished musician as a teenager, he began producing his own tracks, pushing at the template established in the sweaty little venues studding the Lanes.

Green’s first release came on Luis’ label, Tru Thoughts, when his track “Terrapin” was included on the compilation “When Shapes Join Together” in 1999. His debut album, “Animal Magic” followed the next year, completely self-produced and largely self-played, too. Hailed as one of the “new downtempo pioneers,” Green found himself attracting the attention of other labels and eventually signed to Ninja Tune.

In 2003 he released his first album for the label, “Dial ‘M’ For Monkey.” This was a time when Green was also focussing heavily on his DJing, playing banging dancefloor sets of hip hop, funk and drum & bass up and down the country and across Europe, a period which reached its apogee with the release of the mix album “Solid Steel: It Came From The Sea.”

“Days To Come” followed in 2006, Green opting for a lusher, more live sound than on his earlier records. To tie in with this musical development, he put together and rehearsed a live band that could bring the music of his records to life. As a result he has moved from selling out the Luminaire to selling out Koko to selling out Kentish Town Forum and the Roundhouse and producing the live DVD to prove it. “Days To Come” also scooped the Gilles Peterson listnerer’s poll for Album of The Year. At the award ceremonies he met the talented UK soul singer Andreya Triana. Not only did the friendship they struck up result in Andreya’s superb contributions to “Black Sands” but Si has produced the whole of her solo debut, coming from Ninja later in the year.

PHAELEH:

www.facebook.com/Phaeleh

In 2006, classically trained musician and electronic sound scientist Matt Preston was swept up in the wake of the Dubstep phenomenon. His diverse influences resulted in an equally diverse musical output, ranging from the euphoric heights of Nordic electronica through cinematic breakbeat to the depth charges of Dubstep.

Phaeleh’s unique sound has garnered support from the scene’s leading artists, including Skream, N-Type, Scuba, Distance, Kryptic Minds, Oris Jay, RSD and Jakes to name but a few, as well as radio support on BBC Radio 1, BBC Asian Network, BBC 6 Music and Kiss FM. This has helped Phaeleh to top the sales charts with releases on Surface Tension, Against the Grain & Urban Scrumping as well as future releases on Skream’s Disfigured Dubz, N-Type’s Wheel & Deal Records and label of the moment Black Box.

BOOKWORM:

http://www.labcoated.com/

Bookworm is the musical project of Asheville, NC based producer Isaac LeFever. Many hours spent up late in the studio perfecting the texture and nuance heard in his compositions result in a very diverse but cohesive sound that is constantly evolving. On stage, Bookworm brings a high energy and varied palette of electronic music blended together into an absolutely unique experience. At a time when it’s simply easier to tow the line playing mind numbing club bangers, Bookworm has taken the road less traveled, quickly gaining fans – themselves also in search of something different..

PAPER TIGER:

Paper Tiger is the meeting of two alter-egos who relish in the space where inhibitions die and art is made. They are inspired by sounds, instruments, vinyl records and ideas that otherwise may never connect. Beautiful Asheville NC, is their home. They love the city, they love nature, they draw inspiration from both. They recycle. This is a short version of their story.

In the beginning, there was a jazz singer who met a DJ/producer. They shared a mutual love of Radiohead and collaborated on their own cover version of “Fake Plastic Trees”. Although both MINGLE (one half of a duo) and RubySlippers (one third of a trio) were working with other projects, they felt a spark in their new creation and began to write and record their own material. Paper Tiger has hit a stride in creating original lounge/trip hop, and are quickly establishing themselves as a duo in the Asheville music scene.
