The sour smell of your grandpa's fart still lingers in the air long after you've hurled the gravy boat at your cousin Teresa and flipped her brother Teddy the bird. You've been asked six times by your daft Auntie Mabel if your favorite band is "Dubstep," and you're counting the seconds until you can escape from this holiday prison sentence.
10. Porter Robinson - Beta Nightclub - Denver, CO - Nov 28
Ahhh, Thanksgiving. Always a breeze, huh? Well, you need an excuse to get the hell out of the house, and we've got ten of them. So give thanks you've got The Untz. If you can't tunnel your way out to any of these shows, check www.theuntz.com/events for concerts in your area.
Skip the pumpkin pie and head right out the door to Beta after packing it in on Thanksgiving night. Colorado is so filled with people from anywhere but Colorado so there's a good chance the streets will be empty, and you'll be able to find some good parking. Or, the allure of Porter Robinson is enough to make folks skip T-giving altogether and go catch the young complextro DJ/producer do his thing in the electronic music epicenter of the country.
9. Eric Prydz - Aragon Ballroom - Chicago, IL - Nov 29
Tech, house, and prog legend Eric Prydz will be in the building the night after Thanksgiving. Which building? Quite possibly the most important building in Chicago--sorry, Willis. Sorry United Center. The Aragon Ballroom is filled with so much history, you can smell it in the bricks. Or that's the frat boy who pissed under the L station across the street. But just know that React is going to do it up right.
8. Papadosio - Bogart's - Cincinnati, OH - Nov 29
The boys of Papadosio have climbed their way to one of the most iconic venues in the country. Bogart's in Cincinnati is legendary in the state of Ohio, and just across the state from where the band was formed in Athens. The night after Thanksgiving, you can give thanks that these guys are absolutely crushing it on the road and in the studio, and you can bet that they'll be even bigger by Christmas.
7. Rusko - The Palladium - Los Angeles, CA - Nov 29th
So Roni Size fell off the Rusko tour. No biggie. The twisted dubstep madman will have plenty of bass to stuff your face the night after you stuff your face with tryptophan and cranberry sauce. LA being Rusko's adopted hometown, this is going to be a homecoming of sorts, and a fun way for you to spend Black Friday.
6. Diplo - Surrender - Las Vegas, NV - Nov 27th
The Hon. Rev. Diplo will be counting down to 2014 at Surrender in Las Vegas, NV this NYE, but Thanksgiving EVE, he'll be counting down to Twerks-giving. If you're unable to #ExpressYourself at the dinner table in front of your conservative aunt and uncle who just don't get what's happened to that poor "Millie Cyrus" girl, and think she's running with the wrong crowd, just roll your eyes, excuse yourself, and get on down to Vegas, baby.
