Untz Sampler Front

The Untz is proud to announce the release of TheUntz.com 2011 Digital Music Sampler. This digital compilation features some of the biggest acts in all of electronic music, as well as up-and-comers bursting onto the scene in a big way. Low-frequency maestro Bassnectar (Amorphous Music) kicks off the sampler with a brand new banger from his latest album Divergent Spectrum. He’s joined by dub and downtempo gurus Thievery Corporation (ESL Music), as well as bass-wranglers ill.Gates (Muti Music) and FreQ Nasty (High Chai Recordings , Muti Music). Live electro-house pioneers Future Rock, breakthrough dubstep producers LoBounce and Cottonmouth, electronic-jam acts EP3 and Skeetones, along with ten more, round out the twenty slot sampler.

To celebrate the release of the sampler, and each artist whose hard work has gone into this project, TheUntz.com will be featuring each track on the sampler over the course of the next month. We begin with the opening track, "Above & Beyond," from, quite frankly, one of--if not the--biggest DJs/producers in the country: Bassnectar. Not only has he gained notoriety for his trendsetting tracks and always being on the cusp of the next big sound in electronic music, but his prolific output has been critically lauded and he's worked with the best artisans in the industry. On top of his amazing catalog of work, Lorin Ashton just put out his Divergent Spectrum album last week, and the release hit the top of the iTunes electronic charts. Pretty amazing for a guy who gets no real airplay, no love from the mainstream media, and generally flies under the radar--unless you count his throngs of fans who travel thousands of miles to see his over-the-top performances. On that note, Bassnectar will be turning New York's Governors Island into Bass Island, featuring performances by Prefuse73, Virtual Boy, Z-Trip, and more, along with some major surprises from the whole Bassnectar camp.

The track speaks for itself. Grinding its way through a hard-edged intro, throwback piano tinkles drip onto a stubborn beat, like Biz Markie getting juiced with an adrenaline shot. A little break, and here comes the drop. Powerful waves of sonic intensity come gushing out of even the tinniest laptop speakers. Do yourself a favor and throw this tune up on your soundsystem, like it was intended. The track is, after all, a collaboration with the album's engineer Seth Drake (who will be featured on next week's Untz Podcast). The purity of the bass and gusto of its undulations is best enjoyed at a volume of 11--or better yet, get yourself to NY for Bass Island, and hear it up close and personal.

Instead of wasting resources on thousands of CDs, TheUntz.com is distributing club flyers with QR codes that will stream music directly to fans. All they have to do is scan the code with their smartphone cameras! The Untz will distribute more than 75,000 flyers this summer, at some of the biggest (and smallest) electronic music events nationwide. You can grab a digital sampler flyer at Electric Zoo, North Coast Music Festival, Outside Lands, and beginning today in Noblesville, at each stop on the 20-city Identity Festival tour—the first ever touring electronic-only music festival to visit major amphitheaters in the US. The entire sampler is available at TheUntz.com homepage, and at TheUntz.com/sampler.
