4. Herbie Hancock - Head Hunters

Herbie is just all around one of the best musicians in the history of all music. I could’ve picked several albums of his really. When I first got into jazz music Herbie was a big breath of fresh funky air. I chose head hunters really just because it’s a great fusion of style and watermelon man is one of my all time favorite tracks. When the beat kicks all is right in the world.

3. Lettuce - Outta Here

I still have a hard copy of this album laying around somewhere. I remember it being the only CD in my car for a VERY long time ha. I had never heard a modern funk group really when my brother showed me this album. I grew up on funk and when I heard Outta Here my mind was blown entirely. All of those guys are my heroes, very funky and incredibly talented. I definitely have spent a lot of time listening and practicing around with Adam Deitch’s drumming. He is a rhythmic monster.

2. Martin Sexton - Black Sheep

When it comes to singer songwriter musicians Martin is pretty much the only guy I listen to regularly and come back to. I really dig what he can do with his voice and he is an incredible guitar player. Honestly his solo live stuff is by far the most impressive and beautiful music, but if I had to pick an album this would be it. The lyrics are incredible. I still get goosebumps every time I listen to the track "Black Sheep."
