Pegged as one of the bands to blow up in 2016, TAUK hasn't disappointed, finding its way onto major festival stages and big support slots from the jump. On the cusp of releasing its third studio album, Sir Nebula, the follow-up to last year's double live album, HEADROOM, Matt Jalbert, A.C. Carter, Charlie Dolan, and Isaac Teel are already staring down the barrel of a full fall schedule.

Amidst a rigorous tour schedule, the guys put in tireless hours in their Oyster Bay, NY studio space and at LA’s Solar Powered Plastic Plant, knocking out track after track, trying to keep things fresh. The result is a tightly-woven album that sees the four-piece at its best. In the pocket, the tightness of band doesn't result in stiffness. Quite the opposite. The months on the road have given the band's sound that is structured, but feels very open. Space is an important element of Sir Nebula.

TAUKToday we have the great thrill of premiering "Time's Up," a microcosm of the album, as a whole. Dark and brooding, as the band's aesthetic has always been, there's a propulsion of drums and bass that cuts through the record. Spatial awareness is a light that shines through the darkness, illuminating each subsequent progression and musical theme. This is a band that has spent a lot of time together. Nothing is forced, and you never get the sense that they went with the second best idea on any of these cuts.

For those looking for a touchstone, the quartet is somewhere between the danceable energy of STS9 and the taut composition of Papadosio. The jazz, rock, and funk flavors are there, but on the new record, the band hones its own signature blend even further. Doubtless, there must be somewhere nearby fans can catch the outfit this fall, as the road stretches out long before them.
