Random Rab & Ayla NereoAs the sun crested the treetops and flooded Playa Hermosa with glistening morning rays, the gorgeous music that flowed from the Funktion-Ones matched the beauty washing over the sun-drenched crowd at Envision. Random Rab and Ayla Nereo may have been beaming brighter than the sun, as their freeform collab tickled fans who broke into the daylight with the pair.

That was our first glimpse of the burgeoning sonic friendship between Rab Clinton and the Jumpsuit Records vocal powerhouse. Thankfully, that early AM improv session is not an isolated musical incident. We're thrilled to premiere Rab's remix of "Life-Bound Friend," which drops tomorrow (March 24) as part of Ayla's Hollow Bone Remixes, a collection of 17 tracks including contributions from some of our favorite artists like Kalya Scintilla, AtYyA, D.V.S*, saQi, and ill-esha.

In true Rab fashion, the irreverent producer defies all expectations by turning the dreamy folk ballad into a pulsing house hit. Subtly and reverently, Nereo's vocals are channeled into a hypnotic groove that both elevates and focuses her intensity. What was once ephemeral in the original is grounded in the steady kick. As a vocalist, Clinton knows exactly how to use the voice as an instrument in the studio; bending, inflecting, and repositioning each piece with care.

Just a couple weeks after her remix album drops, Ayla will help anchor the Alive Stage at Lucidity in Santa Barbara, CA (April 10-12). She also performs with The Polish Ambassador as their Wildlight joint project on that very stage. Random Rab, meanwhile, continues on his North American Tour with saQi which kicked off this past weekend in his hometown of Ashland, OR. The pair have dates all across the country, so make sure to brush up on those.

As for us, we selfishly hope Nereo has made a life-bound friend in Rab. Remixes, collabs, surprise performances--we'll take it all.
