We make sure to pay special mind when ThazDope Records comes to us with the hot new heat. The label has been pumping out some of the best underground bass we've heard in a minute, and the beats just won't stop flowing on their end. The entire crew is excited about a new cut from some of their recent acquisitions, and we will take any opportunity to shine a light.

The Untz Festival 2017Newcomer Mr. Scissors has linked up with central Illinois' Cntrl. The pair turned out a low-key hit in “Skunk Feathers,” and we're bringing it to you piping hot and fresh as only we can do. We're seeing a trend towards subdued minimalism. Whenever the scene gets a little too hyphy, there seems to be a tendency to self-correct by new talent, and that's what we're seeing here. Deep, dark, and subtle, this cut is all about the hypnotic head nod. It gets jacked—don't worry, but it never gets sloppy. The big bass blasts and climactic wobbles go hard, but the whole piece works like a hip-hop backing track that's too good to get bogged down in subpar rhymes.

Of course, nobody knows fresh talent like ThazDope Records. They've got a number of big parties and conferences planned around the country this summer, and the Wake The Nation tour gets underway very soon, which will take up-and-comers on a tour through major regions of the country through May on the way to The Untz Festival in Mariposa, California from June 2-4. It's going to be a deal, so you better get your tickets.
