Couldn't be a more perfect time for some steamcrunked Sufi tunes! Dj GON drops his Qawwali EP today (February 14) on Console Records, and it's no coincidence that it happens to be the "love"liest day of the year.

For all the South Asian ethnomusicologists out there (as well as the amateurs), qawwali music is the Sufi's devotional music which dates back centuries and centuries, but has gained a foothold in popular culture thanks to the late great Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, who was like the Michael Jackson, Umm Kulthum, and Pavarotti of style all rolled into one. Dj GON snatched up some vox from “Te Biba Sada Dil Morh De” for his own tune, because—c'mon... this dude's pipes were epic. This is deep ecstatic love music from around the world, and there's only one cat who knows what to do with it.

Dj GON tapped our resident retro remixer Mr Jennings to put his signature sound all over this Sufi twerk monster. Throwing his vintage bag of tricks and plenty of bass at “Qawwali” results in a global bass smash that'll wreck your speakers (in a good way). Connecting the east coast burners with the southwest scene, Sattva Ananda takes a different crack this tune as well. This three-track EP will make you sweat it out with your loved one tonight—bedroom goin' up on a Tuesday.
