There are only a few projects in the world of bass music that incorporate a full-time vocalist in the roster, but those that do reap the benefits of an elusive connection between producer and singer that can’t be duplicated by simply sending stems back and forth.
Burgeoning super groups like Krewella, Velvetine, Nero, and the always-classic OceanLab immediately come to mind, but recently it’s the London based duo known as Koven (Max Rowat & Kate Ashton) who are starting to garner some major attention. The immensely talented young guns continued their unstoppable hot streak with the recent unveiling of “More Than You,” set for release in March via Viper Recordings. The gripping video paints a dreary picture of vocalist Kate Ashton trudging through an empty forest, as contrasting images of a lost lover aggressively flash through her jaded spectrum of thoughts.
Keep your undivided attention focused directly on Koven, because they’re quickly accumulating a jaw-dropping style of electrifying music. Also worth checking out is Koven’s feature on Modestep’s upcoming album, finally seeing the light of day on February 13th (fingers crossed).
