King of the indie EDM labels Monstercat set Insan3Lik3's "We Are The Robots" loose a couple weeks back, and it's been stuck to the top of my “Recently Played” list ever since. At first, the name rang a distant bell. After a few minutes of scrolling through my library I remembered Matteo De Micheli's track “Bad Pitched” from back in 2011, which received a lot of praise. It’s been a while since then, and honesly I haven’t exactly been keeping up with the Swiss-hailing producer. But this recent track has really laid claim upon my attention. It’s been a sunny antidote for this Antarctic winter we’ve been enduring over on the East Coast. Stupid groundhog.
“We Are The Robots” doesn’t scream "funky" from the title, but it’s every bit funky and then some. You’ll more than likely think Daft Punk--I did. It’s catchy as hell. Perfect for the groggy ride to work in the morning. Temu’s vocals definitively make the song. Vocal synths are typically catchy, but fused with the right vocalist it can be the cherry on top. If it were released a couple months later it would be a Spring/Summer anthem for me like “Get Lucky” was last year. But that’s as far as I’d go with comparing this to Random Access Memories.
Download the track so you’ll have it for the beach, it will definitely go well with a cold beer in your hand. Look out for Monstercat and more tracks from Insan3Lik3, hopefully Matteo will take note on the feedback this track has received and generate more.
