SONIC BLOOM Phase 1What happens when you combine three of the biggest jam bands into one colossal supergroup?

No idea, but we're gonna find out together this summer.

The initial lineup of the 11th annual SONIC BLOOM boutique music festival is a doozy, and I'm here to guide you towards a couple more of the interesting selections for this year's event. Returning for its third year to Hummingbird Ranch in Spanish Peaks County, Colorado, just a couple hours south of Denver, from June 15-18, there's a smorgasbord of musical sounds and flavors, as always, and psychedelic glitch, funky breaks, livetronica, and experimental bass are well-represented.

We start with Gigantic Cheese Biscuits, which brings together members of Big Gigantic, The String Cheese Incident, and the Disco Biscuits for what is sure to be a clinic in jam and electronic exploration. They're joined by the world's funkiest diplomat, The Polish Ambassador, The Floozies, and Claude VonStroke, so there's going to be no shortage of killer dance music that'll make you boogie.

On the heavier side of the equation, you've got Haywyre, Minnesota, Space Jesus, Joker, Yheti, and Bleep Bloop. This is a slightly new avenue for SONIC BLOOM—a foray into bigger bass acts, but Bassnectar was one of the first headliners of Bloom, so it's not completely out of the blue.

Psychedelic bass has always been the cornerstone of this festival, and Desert Dwellers and Kalya Scintilla are both bringing out their big new stage shows, named Beyond and Evokation, respectively. Psy heads will also have Ott, Phutureprimitive, Random Rab, Bluetech, BogTroTTer, and Andreilien, so there's plenty of heavy-hitters from that sect. We're also excited to see Australian Whitebear on the lineup! Fans have been anticipating a Whitebear SONIC BLOOM appearance for years, and they finally get their wish.

House and techno are well-repped again this year, with Claude VonStroke's side project, Barclay Crenshaw (which is his real name), Golf Clap, and the whole Desert Hearts crew with a special takeover planned. There are also our old stand-bys like Evanoff, CharlestheFirst, and Lucid Vision on the bill, who played The Untz Festival last year.

Early Bloomer tickets are on-sale now at sonicbloomfestival.com—snatch them at this low, low price while you can!
