There’s just something about Ellie Goulding that makes her tracks irresistibly remixable—the only problem is, her originals aren’t always easy to top. That didn’t stop Polish producer Xilent from trying, however, and the spin he put on “Figure 8” proved him worthy of the challenge.
Starting off with a darker intro than the original (think reverberating piano chords and moody hi-hats), Xilent threw in grungy electro tones over Goulding’s first verses before fading out and letting her pipes shine through. The magic really happens when a build creeps in, that drops into a dubbier, cranked up version of the snare/kick found in the original.
The track has dancefloor-ready high BPM moments, hints of trance, a nodding bass line and of course Goulding’s enchanting voice. A solid remix from Xilent, if it doesn’t top the original, it’s at least on par.
