There is a quality of vocal work I can't quite put my finger on. This inherent ability to coalesce the light and the dark without coming off cheesy, or worse, insincere. Or "shitty," I guess, would be the absolute worst. Former Far frontman Jonah Matranga has it. The Deftones' Chino Moreno has it. And Justin Taylor Phillips sure as hell has it.
Crywolf and Ianborg sit on the precipice of the release of their collaborative EP, Runaway, due out November 11th, and their latest single "Ribcage," out today, shows why this partnership is one for the ages. The haunting verse and the thrilling production behind it is gold. Pure gold.
Unfortunately, the release is marred by the news that Phillips' brother Trevor suffered a brain aneurysm this past week. It's obviously a dangerous medical event, and while he's been treated, it comes at a great cost. This week, all purchases of Crywolf music will be diverted to cover Trevor's $100K+ medical bills, and each dollar raised will be matched by Justin, himself. Please watch the video below for more info, and if you're feeling this music, please support Crywolf in what he's trying to do.
