Almost exacty a year ago, Andreilien ushered in a new era of his glitchy sound with Algorithm, a frenetic album exploring the psychedelic reaches of the nascent halftime genre. Now a year later, we get a follow-up EP from Andrei Olenev pursuing further into uncharted drum & bass territories. Fragment comes out February 16 on Muti Music, Andreilien's label for so many years, hearkening back to the Heyoka days.
As a teaser for the EP, we premiere “Lichen” today, the lead off track from the collection. The tune is a heavily glitched out track that waffles back and forth between half time and full speed drum and bass, and drops out notes here and there like a precision hip-hop turntablist. Moody and ethereal, the sonic signature fits that of Olenev's classic material. The rest of the EP contains these sorts of dark sound arts, and we're glad to know that Andreilien groove permeates his work even through to today.
