Favorite This20 in 30: EP3 - "Parallels"

Published: August 28, 2011

It's becoming more and more clear that one of the fastest growing livetronica groups on the scene over the past couple of years has been Atlanta's EP3. The fearsome foursome (comprised of guitarist Dan Cox, bassist Patrick Scalambrino, drummer Tom Hilton, and keyboardist/live producer Charles F. Moreland III) has been absolutely crushing the festival circuit, playing Rootwire, Camp Bisco, and other major events. The release of their newest EP garnered a groundswell of support (check out Kerry McNeil's review of Eight Planets Past Pluto), and we knew we had to get the boys on TheUntz.com 2011 Digital Music Sampler.

"Parallels" features some delicate synth and production work from Moreland. His spacey ambience lays the groundwork for Hilton's breakbeats and Cox's soaring guitar work. The poise and groove of the quartet is certainly more pronounced in the live setting, which is their bread and butter, but it's nice to see that the band can effectively translate their very live aesthetic into the studio. The EP3 Fall tour kicks off this Friday at The Goat Farm in Atlanta, GA. More info at www.ep3band.com.
