Mat Coast - Dreams [EXCLUSIVE]
By: Anand Harsh
French DJ and producer Mat Coast has found himself a sound. Obscurity will be a concept of the past when his High Intensity Records debut EP, Northern, hits the streets--and more importantly, the clubs--on Monday, January 21st. TheUntz.com is privileged to share the opener "Dreams," from the forthcoming, four-track album. Building ever so patiently, the kick and synths of this progressive house anthem thud in your chest and ring in your ears. The production quality and attention to detail are so stunning. This is definitely a tune to try in your headphones before taking out to the nightclub. The ebb and flow of the melody as it crashes into the climax are breathtaking, and Coast's sense of timing is impeccable. You haven't heard much from Mat Coast, yet, but things are about to change.

Blunt Instrument - Double Parked [TheUntz.com Exclusive]
By: Anand HarshMidtempo fans, rejoice! TheUntz.com is thrilled to present the opening track from Brisbane glitch-hop duo Blunt Instrument's new EP Audible Space, out tomorrow (Jan 15) on Simplify Recordings. For those in the know, you can hear a Blunt Instrument cut coming a mile away--or should we say kilometer for our Aussie brethren Luke Latimer and Rocco Mico--because of those drums. That funky thud is just unmistakable, and "Double Parked" is so damn funky you're going to want to get mired in the Queensland legal system just to sue these two for whiplash. There are three distinct rhythmic sections, each with its own bounce and swagger. And the percussive nature of the melody is undeniable. You're going to find yourself humming this one tomorrow morning in the shower. So when you towel yourself off, head over to SimplifyRecordings.com to grab the four-track EP.
Virtual Riot - Idols (EDM Mashup)
By: Anand Harsh
Ask any producer, and he or she will tell you, the mash-up is a delicate art. You've got to not only take a couple of tunes and blend them seamlessly, but you have to be careful not to tread on the connection people have to this classic songs, or you risk being burned at the YouTube stake. Take that pressure, and multiply it by about 20, and you've got "Idols." This EDM mashup from Valentin Brunn, a.k.a. Virtual Riot, is a risky concept conquered. Taking iconinc tracks from the past couple years from Skrillex, Zedd, Kill the Noise, Nero, and more, Brunn uses instantly recognizable snippets to make a fun collage that's actually kind of a treat for nerds (ahem, ahem...) to mentally sort through the pieces and be like "Oh yeah... that's 'Weekends.'" Let's just hope YouTube is ready. I know Virtual Riot is.

Direct - Eternity
By: Anand HarshWhen it's been a couple of days without a Monstercat fix, we here at TheUntz.com start to get a little shaky. So let's dive back into the cool comfort of our old friends. Today's injection comes from Florida, in the form of Joseph Lyncheski. Releasing music from a young age under many pseudonyms, but finally settling on Direct, Lyncheski offers up "Eternity," the chilliest of the chillstep. Melt into your couch to this jam that sounds like the video game music producers behind the Kirby series for GameBoy popped a methadone. Direct seems to be channeling a little Feed Me in here, but only in the most superficial me, using sonic aesthetics of that bleeps and bloops sound, and structurally remaining simple, but there's a delicate tenderness here that sucks you in and never lets you go. You're hooked for eternity.
Arpetrio - Acid Redux
by: Anand Harsh
In our old age, here at TheUntz.com, we're starting to look back on our early years and recognize acts whom we've been behind since the beginning and are really coming into their own. One of the first livetronica acts we saw blossom back in early 2010 was Arpetrio out of Knoxville, TN. We've watched their sound grow and change before our eyes. Today they bring us the second single from their forthcoming EP due out at the end of February for a free exclusive download. "Acid Redux" blends the trio's use of synths and programmed beats with the soaring guitar work of Alex Mindermann. We're excited about the new tune, their new sound, and the new album from our old buddies.
