|||||||||||||||||||||||| THE ASYLUM REUNION

"They paved paradise and put up a parking lot..."

Joni Mitchell

For those of you who haven't heard, the City of Springfield has announced that they will be knocking down The Asylum building throughout July & August. The property will be turned into a parking lot. We at True Productions have decided that this would be a the most appropriate time to have our FINAL Asylum Reunion event to show the City of Springfield that they can tear down a building, but they will NEVER break our spirit.

"You don't know what you got 'til it's gone." Those words couldn't ring more TRUE, especially when reminiscing about a venue such as the Asylum. We want to remind everyone (both old and new) about the importance of preserving the few venues we have left to celebrate our music in. We need to party responsibly. Respect not only the venue you party in, but more so YOURSELF. Respect the others surrounding you and remember - Peace Love Unity Respect *Resposibility*

DJ CRAZE

http://www.slowroastrecs.com

Miami, Florida

Craze's life is a legacy of rags to riches, geek to chic, no-name to world fame. He never had it easy – from fleeing battle in Nicaragua at the age of 3 to a geeky adolescence to Hurricane Andrew hitting Miami in 1992 – nor did have ever have any coattails to ride; his is a story that's an uphill battle, but a story that ends right at the top. "My mom always taught me I could do anything I put my mind to. So when she asked what I wanted to do with my turntables, I told her, 'Be the best DJ in the world,'" Craze casually laughs. And that he proved – 3 times at the DMC World Championships, an unprecedented record, and a title that no other solo DJ has yet to match. While Craze is regarded internationally and unquestionably as one of the best scratch DJs in the world, it's still astonishing to see his overwhelming number of titles on paper: Craze has won first place for the USA DMC Championships in 1998, World ITF Scratch Off Championships in 1998, ITF Western Hemisphere Scratch Off Championships (1998, '99), Winter Music Conference Scratch Off Champion (1996, '97, '98, '99), East Coast DMC Championships (1997), East Coast Rap Sheet Championships (1996) and Zulu National Championships (1995, '96), to name but a few. Additionally, DJ Craze claimed 2nd place in the first DMC Team Championship with his Allies' crew (which included fellow champions A-Trak and Infamous) in 1999 – and then in 2000, the Allies' won the Team Championship title, taking it from the previous year's winners the Scratch Perverts.

"I won the DMC's when I was 20. I joined the Regionals, won that, Nationals, won that, and then won the Worlds. And I took it from A-Trak – that's right! But he was only like 15 when I beat him. I was still scared. Then in that year, in '98 when I beat A-Trak in the [DMC] Worlds, I didn't wanna battle no more and I thought he'd be the icing on the cake, so instead we formed the Allies and we kicked everybody's butt. “ – Craze

On top of his untouchable turntablist skills and scratch champion showmanship, the world has also recognised that Craze is a second to none club DJ – he has toured the globe over, from Jamaica to Australia to Japan to Iceland to France to the country he was born, Nicaragua. All DJing aside, Craze is also a world- renowned producer, releasing wildly successful drum'n'bass records with labels such as Cartel Recordings, Breakbeat Kaos, and C.I.A and other hip hop inspired productions with the likes of DMC Records, Ninja Tune Records, OM Records and K7 Records. It's the respect from both DJs and audiences alike that has paved Craze's seamless move between hip hop and turntablism to drum'n'bass – both serious subzero clique/cult scenes the globe over demanding much of any artist trying to peddle their wares worldwide; to what now sounds like club-style Miami bass, formed with the technical love of hip hop with clean cuts and ridiculously dextrous scratching, but a mix up of straight up rap, ghettotech, raw booty house, old-school electro, Baltimore/Miami bass crossover and sweaty lo-end dancefloor music, making it all but impossible to keep still. This is Craze – the man who arguably defined his hometown Miami turntablism scene, only to return now to reinvent this take on the Miami sound; a neo-genre of his own special blend of every which way club codes from the ghosts of discos past, present and future.

FRANKIE BONES

***Special Closing Set***

http://www.myspace.com/djfrankiebones

http://www.facebook.com/frankiebones01

Brooklyn, New York / Huntington Beach, California

Long before the Book of Faces and Das Googlemaschine brought the world into our bedrooms, Brooklyn turntable legend Frankie Bones set out to harness the international power of electronic music—and he used guerilla street tactics, not blogs and email blasts, to do so.

Widely known as the first American DJ to spin a UK massive, the street-smart crate-digger immersed himself in the creative cauldron of the late '80s rave scene and brought it to American shores. "The entire thing was only happening in England at the time," Bones (born Frank Mitchell) says. "And they were dancing to our music—American house music. We weren't making these records so 25,000 people could freak out to them on ecstasy. I was the only one from America to see that firsthand.

"I figured if I could replicate that, even on a smaller scale, I'd be onto something legendary."

He was right. He launched his historic STORMraves in New York City, sparking a new underground dance movement based on the "peace, love, unity, respect"—PLUR—ethos. His new disc, Scene Starter, due out this summer, references his role as the so-called "Godfather of American Rave Culture."

"I really did a lot for DJ culture in America by taking a risk to do European-styled underground raves in New York City," he says. "I made events that had multiple DJs in one night. Before STORM, most clubs in NYC only would hire one DJ per night. I changed that in 1991."

DARA

http://www.facebook.com/dara.bbs

http://www.myspace.com/daralickt

New York, New York

DJ Dara is considered one of, if not THE, best drum'n'bass DJ in the USA, but his presence is felt internationally. Orignally from Ireland, Dara moved stateside in the early '90s and quickly established himself in New York's underground dance scene. Furthering the movement, he helped open Breakbeat Science, the first drum'n'bass-only record store in the country, which lead to the development of two spin-off labels, Breakbeat Science Recordings and Orgone. Not to be outdone by his peers, Dara released his first full-length album, Rinsimus Maximus in 1997, which was quicly followed by Halfway Home on the same label (Sm:)e Communications) and the mix CD From Here To There on Moonshine Music. In addition to recording music and running his record store, Dara's also known for his Web-TV show, Velocity, on which he interviews drum'n'bass contemporaries from around the world.

Dara has a keen ear for the classic style of clean drum'n'bass and he uses it to create dark and beautiful melodies with hints of color from deep bass grooves with seamless transitions. An artist and an innovator, it takes a fair amount of skill to not only be able to create the beats you like, but to know who else is doing it too. With his own record store (Breakbeat Science) and his own labels (Breakbeat Science Recordings and Orgone), DJ Dara not only plays the scene but lives it in all aspects of his life. He gathers influence from the other artists he works with, a progression cleary shown if you listen to a retrospective of his stuff from Rinsimus Maximus to 2004's The Antidote.

VENOM

http://www.myspace.com/djvenom

http://www.morlockmusik.com

Providence, RI

Few DJs put as much energy, intensity and insanity into their sets as Venom. Coming at you with headbanging sounds and award winning scratching skills, this veteran fills the dancefloors with stomping feet and hardcore beats. Venom has produced over 71 underground mixtapes and CDs. His scratching skills have earned him 2nd place finishes 1994 NE Spin-off, 1st place in the 1997 Providence DJ Battle, and two 2nd place finishes at the Winter Music Conference DJ Competitions in 1998 and 1999. He was also voted 1999 DJ of the Year by the Providence Phoenix People's Choice awards. His specialty is hard house, ghetto booty house, and his own style and label: "retro-tech", a modern version of old school techno breakbeat and jungle. Venom started Volume in 94. Few put on a performance quite like Venom. He continues to break barriers, producing and playing tracks that add a new dimension to the music scene.

HELLFIRE MACHINA

http://www.myspace.com/hellfiremachina

New York City

Combining artists with over 60 collective releases under their belts, Hellfire Machine is a sonic exploration in the realm of bass fueled riddims. Their residencies at New York's Club Love, Brooklyn's Darkroom, and Psychadelic Radio based in SF have them in high demand. Ending last year with A and R and project management credits for the Wu Tang 'Enter The Dubstep' album and a string of singles and remixes, they have hit the ground running in 2010. This is the age of the machine with Hellfire firmly at the controls.

ODI with MC POSI-D

http://www.myspace.com/djodi

New York City

A mainstay at New York's famous NASA parties in 1992, DJ ODI helped mold and continues to represent Jungle & Drum 'N Bass in the Northeast and beyond. He played a strong role in the Asylum's inception too, tearing down legendary sets in some of the earliest Asylum shows. At WRECKING BALL he will rock our old friend MC POSI-D, for a classic Asylum set that will rinse the old school out of your baggy camo ufos!

|||||||||||||||||||||||| ALSO FEATURING:

The Asylum wouldn't have had a 6 year run had it not been for the support from all points in the Northeast. With this final installment of the Asylum Reunion, we at True Productions felt it was necessary to show respect to as many people possible, who helped the Asylum along the way. Even with a total of 5 stages across two venues, we don't have enough time to fit in all the Artists, DJs, & MCs that we wanted. Many of the the DJs below will be doing tag sets or playing shortened sets to make this work! KEEP CHECKING BACK FOR UPDATED INFORMATION AND TIMESLOTS!!!!
