Neal Scarborough Bio:
Positioned right at the peak of the trance new-blood curve, meet Neal Scarborough - Ireland’s freshest electronic dance production property! Over the last few years Neal has supplied the world’s biggest DJs with a non-stop volley of floor-igniting productions, all built with his matchless powerhouse studio style. Recording for labels including Discover, Fraction and Armin van Buuren’s Soundpiercing, his remixing skills are as regularly called upon by imprints including Vandit, Infrasonic and Conspiracy.
In 2004, in collaboration with fellow countryman John O’Callaghan, Neal launched his production career under the moniker Inertia. Discover Records’ A&R vanguard John Askew was quick to seize on both the potential and quality of the partnership - signing them to the respected imprint with breakneck speed. He went on to comment in 2009: Neal is a great producer whose music always has an incredible punch and clarity. He's also a really creative remixer and an exciting DJ. Their first release ‘The Emerald’ brought with it a convoy of DJ support, from the likes of PVD, Armin van Buuren & O’Bir, all of which gave heavy in-club and radio presence to the track. Capitalizing on its reception, their second release ‘The Chamber’ became one of 2005’s biggest underground club smashes, again drawing DJ plaudits from across the EDM range, including Greg Downey who said: “Neal Scarborough has a bright future ahead of him. Being one of my favourite producers, his tracks feature heavily in my sets”
At the start of 2006 Scarborough began to focus more time on his solo productions and remixes. He launched his first solo pseudonym under the name Nautical Imagery, with the track ‘Distant Dreams’. The track appeared on Enhanced Recordings and was placed at No.6 on Paul van Dyk’s 2006 Top 10.
‘Stung on the River’, his first release under his own name came out in 2006, which, partnered by a Sean Tyas remix, further cemented his release reputation. That was followed just two months later by his cover of Art of Trance’s ‘Madagascar’ on Soundpiercing. In the same year he also remixed Dave 202’s ‘Rain Against Her’ for Soundpiercing’s sister-label Captivating Sounds and he re-fashioned Thomas Datt’s track ‘Distance’ into a brilliant, high-octane floor-tenderizer.
The following year saw Scarborough renew his studio partnership with John O’Callaghan… Just in time for summer 2008, the pair released Inertia’s ‘The System’; a track that transfixed dancefloors throughout the season. Over the course of the year he also made his remix debut for Vandit Records, with his highly-charged (and regarded) rework of Jon O’Bir’s ‘Ways and Means’.
2009 saw Neal deliver what has now, unambiguously, gone down as his breakthrough solo hit. It also marked another new label partnership, this time with the well-established Scotland based imprint, Fraction Records. ‘Panama’ showcased in the clearest way possible his mastery of the tougher, techier side of trance music. It became the focus of many of the DJs that had supported his earlier material (including Paul van Dyk, Ferry Corsten & Eddie Halliwell) during its promotional period and went on to become his biggest selling track to date.
Most recently he’s just released ‘Tiberium’, his debut solo track on Conspiracy Recordings and the Fraction follow-up ‘Wiretap’ (which has been given sustained support by Tiësto, O’Callaghan, Tyas & Halliwell, and prompted Simon Patterson to say that it was “the biggest tune of the night at Rotterdam’s ASOT400”). He’s also just locked ‘Caldari’, his collaboration with Frase on Conspiracy Recordings as well as ‘As You Are’, with Irish producer Gary Maguire for Fraction Records.
Neal is also an accomplished Decktition and has become an ever more prevalent DJ fixture at events in both his home country and abroad. Fellow spinner Sean Tyas commented: “musically, Neal and I see eye to eye on almost everything” and “I always look forward to any gig where I'll be playing alongside him, because I know it's going to be a really good night of tunes!” Scarborough has whipped crowds into frenzies at the renowned Vaccine night in London as well as Ireland’s Planet Love festival (in both 2008 and 2009). Year on year his bookings increase at an exponential rate, and show all the signs of a DJ for which the future holds near-infinite promise
