MIGUEL MIGS

http://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/miguelmigs/biography

At the forefront of dance music's deeper realm, Miguel Migs personifies the chilled-out, soul-driven vibe of the San Francisco sound he helped create, combining the best of both the electronic music world, with live instrumentation to create an organic-soulful sound to his original productions and remixes.

His remix of the Naked music single, "If I Fall", was the smooth, groove-infected track that first intertwined Miguel and Naked Music. His 1997 dub remix on OM Records was a surprise hit, slipping its way into numerous compilations and sliding into the record bags of deep house DJs across the globe. Miguel has since found himself on the remixer A-list of dance music's top record labels and producers.

Contrary to many of his club-centric DJ/producer peers, Miguel is unabashedly unconcerned with the potential dance floor appeal of his soulful, uplifting tracks. "It's music you can enjoy and listen to, not necessarily to rock the dance floor at its peak," he explains, noting that he grew up with a true love of reggae, soul, classic rock, R&B, jazz and hip-hop.

As a producer, Miguel perceives a strong connection between his house productions and reggae roots. Reflecting on his live musical background, he writes his own lyrics and plays his own instruments, be it guitar, bass, percussion or keyboard.

As a DJ Miguel maintains the same elements to his sets, as to his productions. Combining a variety of influences and styles fused together. Deep, sensual, soulful, house music. "I like to mix it up and keep it moving, taking the crowd on a very spontaneous journey into the realms of quality, deep house music depending on the mood in the room", says Migs. "But, whether it's vocal, tracky, dubby, moody, percussive, broken beat or whatever, it just has to be very soulful with emotional content."

In the 2000s, Migs launched his Salted Music label, which has since become one of the world's top indie deep house imprints.

Miguel currently can be found regularly travelling the globe as one of the industry's top-leading DJs, as well as at home in the studio creating music, which is his main love and passion. "I definitely spend more time on my studio production sounds these days  I'm constantly tweaking everything!" he laughs. "Songwriting is paramount, but so is getting the EQ right, getting the separation of the sounds right, getting the songs to sound warm with depth, dimension and musicality I'm pretty happy with this album, but really I still feel like I'm at the beginning of my career  as an artist, as a songwriter and as a producer. I plan on doing this for another 30 years."
