Thrashdance takes place every Thursday at Beauty Bar. Four promoters rotate every week and bring you their version of the dance party. Every fourth Thursday, the Lipgloss crew takes over and brings you Crimewave, with a national headliner in an intimate venue. Last month, we brought you Jacob of Depressed Buttons (Jacob, Todd & Clarke of The Faint).
This month, we're going to get a little dirtier & a lot bassier. It's also our Lipgloss 10th Anniversary w/ BAIO of Vampire Weekend (Friday, 6.24) Pre-Party, so show up & you'll have a great chance to win tix to it because we'll be giving away 25 guest spots!

DEATHFACE is the hive mind entity created by Johnny Love of Guns ‘N’ Bombs. It is the product of locking a group of sociopathic misanthropes into a basement studio with a supply of high-powered hallucinogenic substances and a pile of heavy bassline, dubstep and mid-West breakcore. DEATHFACE is the sound of a sonic teenage ear beating.
There’s been a long road leading to this point for Johnny Love, the primary compositional force behind the music of Deathface. He entered into the electronic music scene in his native Chicago, quickly becoming a staple in the city’s dance music and DIY culture. His parties on the city’s South Side were meant for deep underground dance tracks only; nothing from the radio’s top 40 could be played. The shows became legendary to fans as well as the police force. After several out of control parties landed him in jail, he moved to Los Angeles and formed Guns N’ Bombs, a group he has described as “French touch electro.” Though the group gained some serious popularity in the city’s dance scene, it came to a quick and messy end, inspiring Love to move into a more bass-heavy, dubstep sound. Out of this came Deathface, a group with hard-hitting, adrenaline-fueled electronic beats that recently destroyed at SXSW and Miami’s Ultra week. Joining Love for the group’s second EP, Fall Of Man, is the vocal talent Adri Law, a Los Angeles photographer and fashionista.
CMJ is premiering the video for “Bloodrave,” the opening track off of the latest EP. The short but dark video features a Michael Cera kind of character being taken to an underground warehouse rave and of course, awkwardly failing at fitting in with the badass edgy crowd. Tough break, man. Entrance to the club is allowed because his date flashes a card with the logo from Trouble And Bass, Deathface’s label. Bravo for the successful subtle advertising.
