Mr. V

Experiencing Mr. V’s DJ sets, original productions, or remixes is like taking a trip back in time to dance music’s golden age. Before superstar DJs took over the spotlight, dance music was a cultural phenomenon that did what no other form of music could do – bring people together. It didn’t matter what race or sexual orientation you came from because dance music was all about embracing our differences and creating a homogeneous vibe. The music was built heavily on traditional song structures and lots of heart and soul. DJs played whatever it took to get the party going and the music was never predictable. It is with this classic spirit and enthusiasm that New York City’s Mr. V targets today’s dance music world. Mr. V is a throwback in the purest sense.

Growing up in the 1980’s the open-minded Mr. V was heavily influenced by House, Hip-Hop, Latin, Garage and Disco classics, Rhythm & Blues and Jazz. Mr. V was enamored by the role a DJ commanded over a crowd and was taken by the talents of his friend Lord G., who had a weekly Thursday night party in New York City. Despite wanting to be a professional DJ, it wasn’t until he met the legendary Louie Vega that he found his calling. “Louie used to have his party called “Underground Network,” and that’s where I discovered a deeper taste for house music. I always wanted to be a DJ, but Louie’s type of music – that whole soulful sound – is what I wanted to play,” says Mr. V. Louie Vega saw the drive and potential in Mr. V and hired the young Nuyorican DJ / producer as his assistant at the world famous Masters At Work label. In this position Mr. V was given a rare glimpse into the global dance scene and before long was taking to the decks alongside his mentor.

Stylistically, Mr. V has a wildly eclectic sound that brings spontaneity back to the art of DJing. “Sometimes I just pull stuff [out of the DJ bag] out of the blue. I like to keep people guessing. I play things that I don’t think other people are playing – I’ll play a house-rock record or some classic stuff. It’s always different and depends on the vibe,” he says.

In 2001, along with partner Alix Alvarez, Mr. V launched his own label Sole Channel Music as a way to release music with complete control and artistic freedom. 2006 was a breakout year for Mr. V as we saw the release of his much anticipated debut album, Welcome Home. Combining his multifaceted skills as a Dj / producer / remixer, and with an ear towards dance music’s roots, Mr. V is a name to watch out for!

Miguel Migs

Whether tackling his original productions or remixes, he achieves an organic-soulful sound by combining the best of both the electronic music world and live instrumentation. For many years, Miguel's productions have been included on countless compilations and his records have slid into the crates of top DJs across the globe. His music has also landed him on TV shows, including Six Feet Under, Sex in the City, and MTV's Road Rules and Real World.

Contrary to many of his club-centric DJ/producer peers, Miguel is not always concerned with the potential dance floor appeal of his soulful tracks. "It's music you can enjoy and listen to at home, in the club, or anywhere. Not necessarily just to rock the dance floor" explains the Northern California native, who grew up with a true love of reggae, soul, classic rock, jazz, hip-hop and just about everything else.

His impressive discography includes more than 100 original productions and remixes on seminal independent labels such as Salted Music, Naked Music, Astrelwerks, Yoshitoshi, NRK, Black Vinyl, Large, Chez, Transport Recordings, Om Records, Defected Records and many others. His recordings have consistently made waves in the underground circuit and have landed on DJ hype charts internationally. He goes highly regarded when it comes to remixes, having worked with major label artists such as Macy Gray, Lionel Ritchie and Britney Spears. Miguel additionally has released numerous mix CD compilations on labels including Defected, Naked Music, Southport Weekender and NRK.

Get Salted Volume 2 shows off Miguel Migs' technically seamless transitions, while he blends a choice selection of underground soulful edged deep house dance grooves, including some unreleased exclusives, that evoke a true booty shaking energy while still capturing a deeper emotional response. Get Salted Volume 2 is the perfect CD for a day at the beach, at night at your house party or in the car driving. Miguel Mig's “So Far” (Yogi and Husky Deep Wash Dub Edit) brings the vibe in gently with slow synths and a soothing vibe while Nathan G “88 Keys To Love” picks it up with some classic house piano stabs. The space disco of Roberto De Carlo feat. Colin Corvez “You Are The One For Me (Miguel Migs Salted Dub)” is contrasted by the 90’s Hip-House sound of Dutchican Soul “Get On Down” (Unreleased Dub Edit) and then again by the jazzy tech house of Dirty Culture “No Matter How.” Swingin’ soulful grooves are shared by Jay-J with Charlene Moore “Love Alive (Dub)” and Fred Everything feat. Tortured Soul “Lying To You” (Fred Everything Dub) before Migs brings in a little R&B flavor with his own unreleased dub of “Sometime (feat Tim Fuller.)” You get the point by now, don’t cha? It’s a soul/R&B/House/disco party mix that works equally well on large sound systems and little earbuds.

Julius Papp

Julius Papp is one whose dedication to music has propelled his career as a producer and DJ in the electronic music scene. His dance music roots lie in Disco of the 70’s and New Wave of the 80’s. He was born and raised in Montreal, Canada, and got tuned into dance music through the city’s flourishing club scene and diverse radio broadcasts. He started collecting vinyl records in the late 70’s and took to the turntables in 1985, scoring his first major club gig two years later.

Hearing the non-stop flow of music and observing the booth where the DJ seamlessly blended each selection were early influences for Julius. Later influences included reading about parties that were piloted by talented music programmers that even today, influence the youngest of aspiring DJ’s - legends like Larry Levan at the Paradise Garage in New York City to Frankie Knuckles at The Warehouse in Chicago to Tony Humphries’ weekly at Zanzibar in New Jersey. Always inspired by the music listed in those articles, Julius would shop for those titles that would later become classics, worshipped by their discerning audiences. To this day, his goal is to keep expanding his foundation in music by being open minded and eclectic in absorbing the music that truly touches him.

That open-minded attitude is what Julius uses to fine-tune his musical palette, which gives him a dominant sound that exudes a deep and soulful perspective. That dominant sound is House Music – which to him, is about an uplifting positive message. People coming together in unity, with no barriers or restrictions, but rather, with tolerance and the spirit of music, unifying everyone on the dancefloor. That being said, he blends various musical styles together -including Soul, Latin, Afro, Disco & Jazz, with such fluidity that it is difficult at times to put a defining stamp on his sound. Contributing to that is his willingness to take a chance. He always tries to push the envelope by introducing music that deserves exposure, taking his audience on a musical journey with various mood and energy changes.

Not content to limiting his ambitions in the DJ booth, Julius began producing music in 1994. The studio was another outlet for Julius’ creative ideas to flow. His first release was a downtempo project on the Acid Jazz tip. He also drew attention as part of the jazz and funk scene in San Francisco via the Mushroom Jazz parties alongside resident Mark Farina.

As Julius’ production catalogue grew, so did the amount of labels he released music on including – long tenured labels like King ST (NYC), Large Music (Chicago) and OM (SF), to recent signings on Soulfuric Recordings and Kenny Dope’s ‘Dope Wax’ label.

As a veteran in the club scene, Julius has refined a style of dance music that has taken him beyond the boundaries of San Francisco to global praise and recognition. Being nominated as “Most Innovative Producer” at the 2004 House Music Awards is a perfect example of that. Putting him in the company of other nominated producers like, Joey Negro, Osunlade, DJ Gregory, DJ Spinna and Ben Watt was an absolute honor for him.

In 2003 Julius Papp ventured into the label arena with NeoDisco Music. Named after the sound that continues to inspire him - the label offers him an alternate outlet to release his own productions.

DJ MFR

DJ MFR resides in San Francisco, California, U.S.A. His musical history began at the early age of 18 when he began to djing in Rome.

MFR's musical influences range from reggae, hip-hop and soul, to classic rock and jazz. In 1990 he connected strongly with the soothing sounds of soulful house music. Soon after, he began DJ'ing to express and share his selection of deep, soothing soulful house music with others.

Moving to San Francisco in 1995, he immediately started playing in local clubs. In recent years he has begun writing and experimenting with electronic music.

In 1997 Marco together with Miguel "Migs" and Bruno Ybarra started Transport Recordings, an independent label today well established in the underground scene.

Currently he can be found in the studio writing music ranging from deep house vocal songs and dubs, to funky late night disco tracks and smooth down tempo jams. A flavor for all the dance floors.

In the recent years DJ MFR together with San Francisco based producer Vincent Kwok started a production called "NEW MONDO". The first two releases are now out on San Francisco label Eight Fifteen Recordings.

DJ MFR has traveled the world headlining events in cities such as Vancouver, Rome, Florence, LA, Seattle, Miami, Nashville etc.

DJ Rouzbeh

Since 1997, DJ Rouzbeh began laying down the vinyl with one goal in mind, being able to work crowds to another state of mind. His passion for the sound and ability to remix tracks live led him to embark on the musical journey he has come to today. Rouzbeh's ability to work the floor with creative sounds and effects sets him apart from the 'average DJ', and has led him to play alongside many world-class DJs. Taking one step further, he jumpstarted Back2Basics in 2000, and currently still manages enough time to be involved in event production. His talents - musical and business - have cemented his existence in the San Francisco house scene. If you have not had a chance to catch him at a LIVE performance, you are missing quite a show.

DJ Von

Von's father started his record collection the day he was born, literally. He got his first turntable in 1990, but he could only afford one, so he was a turntablist by default. When he got his second turntable he was primarily a hip-hop dj, back when hip-hop was great. Back when it was hip-hop. As it began to turn sour in the late 90s he was turned onto house music. He was turned onto many different types of music at that time in his life, but deep, funky, soulful, weird House music was what he developed a passion for. He played nothing but house for about 5 years, but then it lost support and it became hard to find gigs as a "house dj". So now He combines his life-long record collection, his skills as a turntablist, his trained ear as a house dj, and his passion for Jazz and Soul, and rocks parties as hard as he can.

Jenö

Born in london in the mid-sixties and citing his mum's far out record collection as a major early influence, Jenö has always had a magical relationship with music. A relationship that has been strengthened by his unconventional upbringing, his five chaotic years as a punk musician and then his head first fall into the warehouse scene of the mid-eighties. It was here that he begged and borrowed his first records and turntables, developing a passionate love for dance music that led to many memorable gigs (including his own heady "Whoosh" parties) and spontaneous adventures, often with his old mates from the now infamous "Tonka Sound System".

After heading to San Francisco in the early 90's in search of a more psychedelic groove, he and several friends began the now legendary "Full Moon" parties. The friendly vibe and hedonistic atmosphere found at these free outdoor events attracted a large and diverse crowd of people, and set the tone for the future of the electronic dance music scene in Northern California.

Inspired by the 60's drenched, jazz laden, funk driven and disco'd out sounds of San Francisco's past, Jenö along with the other "Wicked" dj's has helped define an eclectic and soulful musical style that was the original sound of San Francisco.

He has now become one of most loved and sought after dj's in the United States. His unique sound and superb mixing skills have gained him a following all over North America and parts of Europe. He has played at the "Rex Club" in Paris, the legendary “Twilo” in New York, clubs in Mdrid, Prague, London, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Seattle, Los Angeles, and in most major cities in the USA. He has played alongside many of his favourite dj's including Louie Vega, Tony Humphries, Roger Sanchez, Stacy Pullen, DJ Pierre, Francois Kevorkian, Harvey, Kenny Hawkes and Chez Damier.

Jenö has released numerous mix tapes and CD's including a mix for probably the most prestigious of all the house music CD sets in the US, the “United DJ's of America” series by DMC and Moonshine, and has begun working in the studio on his own music. He has a several remixes available on different record labels including Grayhound Records and is available for bookings.

Born and raised in San Jose, M3 began his music career in 1990 promoting some of the original Bay Area.s massives such as .Get Down, Get Down, Get Down., .The Gathering., and .Deep Space.. Initially influenced by music ranging from Rick James, Screaming Jay Hawkins, and Led Zepplin, M3 began his d.j. career with a smooth down-tempo sound. Since then, his sound has evolved to include a spectrum of thumpin. house beats which he is distinctively known. His dj name, M3, initially stood for Marijuana Motivates the Mind, but has since transformed to Makes Me Move. M3's funky fresh style will, without a doubt, have you moving by the end of the night. Today, M3 keeps himself busy with event promotions, music production, and performing. M3 is spreading the good word of house from San Francisco to San Jose, and beyond.
