Markus Schulz - Podcast Episode 110
Date: Feb 22, 2012 (Wednesday)
Easily one of the biggest DJs on the planet, and certainly the most important trance producer in North America, Markus Schulz is featured on this week's very special episode of The Untz Podcast. Growing up in awe of the breakdance scene that was fueled by acts like Kraftwerk, Schulz moved to the US from Germany as a teenager, and eventually became hip to the house music emanating from Chicago and other progressive hubs. Always looking for that synth sound, he began his career DJ'ing Top 40 clubs, but always looking to inject his own sound. Remixing and adding layers to the tracks he was DJ'ing, Schulz eventually was tapped by major artists to help them rework their own pop hits. This all led to him being the very first artist signed to Armin Van Buuren's seminal Armada label, one of the biggest record companies in the world, under the tutelage of Maykel Piron. For more than a decade, Markus Schulz has set the gold standard for success in the world of dance music while maintaining his artistic integrity.
This episode is a crash course in navigating through the industry, not only as an independent artist looking to advance to the next level, but established DJs looking to stay true to their art while making a living. Schulz just released the latest installment in his metropolitan mix series, Los Angeles, a 12" inspired by the gritty and glamorous City of Angels.
