Full Bio
My very first job was as a live sound engineer when I was 14 years old in San Diego, California.
When I turned 16 I dropped out of High School to start studying Audio Production, Electronic Music and Music Theory at City College in San Francisco.
I was hired at 17 by an independent record label and distribution company called Eyephunk. Working with them immersed me in the world of electronic dance music and launched my DJ career. I also helped them develop and distribute a Radio Show called Eyephunk Intermission, where we interviewed some of the top electronic music artists in the world for international radio syndication.
Also at 17 I joined forces with Tantra Productions, a local event company that produces stages at LovEvolution, Pride, How Weird St Faire, Castro Halloween and Pink Saturday as well as some of the premier Trance and Psytrance parties in America. I continue to work actively with Tantra to this day.
By the time I turned 18 I was Dj'ing for crowds well into the thousands as well as playing my first gigs in Europe.
When I turned 19 I started getting political. Fed up with the way young adults who liked late night parties were being treated, I joined up with the San Francisco Late Night Coalition and started taking trips to City Hall. Within 6 months I was appointed by Supervisor Bevan Dufty to represent young people as an official City Commissioner on the San Francisco Youth Commission.
While on the Commission I oversaw the drafting and passage of a law extending the hours in which 18+ events could operate. No longer would they have to end at 2am, now we could have permitted events that went all night, just as 21+ events could.
After working on the Commission for a year I went back to focusing on building my music career and studying Political Science. My studies took me as far as the American University In Cairo where I was researching Middle Easter Political Science.
After realizing that my true calling was in the world of sound, I took my education to the next level by enrolling in the Pyramind Institute for Digital Audio in San Francisco. During my time there I discovered my love for Sound Design (in addition to music, of course) and actively started developing my skills in this field as well.
After finishing the program at Pyramind, they enlisted me as an intern where I began doing real-world Sound Design work, including projects for Wii and Nintendo DS titles. I currently do freelance Sound Design out of my studio at the Saul Zaentz Media Center in Berkeley.
My extremely busy life currently involves juggling Event Production (either with Tantra or through my own endeavors), DJ'ing, Music Production, Sound Design and working with the international nightclub and restaurant: supperclub.
In addition to that I also spend a lot of time and energy building the Beat University Scholarship Fund that I founded in 2008. We are actively raising money for the first dedicated electronic music scholarship program in America. Please visit www.beatuniversity.com for more info on that project.
