Episode 7 - Simon Posford
Date: Apr 20, 2010 (Tuesday)
Born in Britain, Simon Posford's first foray into the music industry began behind the boards, as a producer, engineer, and mixer for Virgin Records. Never a fan of electronic music, a few enlightening experiences at early raves piqued his interest in ambient music. Posford's debut album, Twisted, released in 1995 under the name Hallucinogen, introduced audiences to the brand of electronic psychedelia that has gained him huge notoriety in Europe and Asia.
Shpongle, his trance duo with flautist Raja Ram, has cemented Posford as an artist's artist in the States. Marc Brownstein of the Disco Biscuits, a longtime fan of Posford, asked him to produce a number of tracks on the new Biscuits album Planet Anthem. His label, Twisted Records, is the home of his Younger Brother bandmate Benji Vaughan and remix maestro Ott. Posford is currently winding his way through the US promoting Ineffable Mysteries from Shpongleland and gearing up to re-master a forthcoming Younger Brother album. Plenty of Shpongle and Younger Brother tracks are featured on this week's program.
Next week on The Untz Podcast, John Gallup of Cicada Rhythm promotions is the featured guest. Gallup is an electronic music promoter who has been bringing bigger and bigger acts to Kansas for more than 10 years. Wakarusa has given Gallup and Cicada Rhythm major control of its electronic stage for the past few years, and this year's lineup is better than ever.
